We were approached by the Bristol Aero Collection to assist with producing a DVD to sell to help fund the new museum to house the Concorde aircraft.

Several members took up the challenge, and are filming the rebuilding of a Canadian-built Bolingbroke aircraft (which was a Bristol Blenheim built under licence - there are very few Blenheims left). These two aircraft types were produced in great numbers and deployed successfully in the early stages of WW2, but were soon overtaken by faster variants of German fighter aircraft and suffered terrible losses.

So far, early stages of restoration of the nose, fuselage, engines and undercarriage have been filmed, and many interviews with pilots who flew them and others who helped design, build and operate them. Tales of daring missions are really bringing home the frightening prospects facing aircrews flying low over occupied territory to deliver their bombs, and destroy vital installations and interrupt supplies.

The pace of filming is determined by the work being done, but it is hoped to have it edited and ready for sale in two years time to celebrate 100 years of flying at Bristol's Filton airfield.

UPDATE: November 2009. Bill Morgan of the Bristol Aero Collection informed us that they have relocated the rebuild to an alternative workshop with much improved working conditions, and will now be able to resume restoration. We look forward to covering these activities and adding to our library of shots for a forthcoming DVD.

Reminiscing returned to the studio at Littleton-on-Severn when we met Geoff Watkins.
He was born in Tytherington, educated at Thornbury and now lives in San Diego, California, and we were fortunate to hear of his visit to the UK. His wartime experiences of Bolingbroke aircraft have been added to our library of clips.
