Well known in amateur drama circles for many, many, years, she also took into her home some less fortunate people who were then able to live in a family environment. Not content with giving up so much of her personal space and time, she looked after a wide variety of animals on her farm. Anyone who visited her would surely realise that she knew what was important in life, and gave one hundred percent to help others. The group that she ran for elderly people will be among many that will be deprived of her outgoing nature, as will BFVS where she gave tremendous assistance with finding actors as well as taking her place in front of the camera. She will most certainly be missed. For the record, Dawn's involvement with the Bristol Film and Video Society included: First contact on our film Cabot Help with Planets - some scenes were filmed on the beach behind her house Sonny's Song Anne Teaks Mr Davidson's Autumn Pendant Very many Mini epics / Nine O'Clock News / Training exercises Clarkson Encounters with John Wesley Recruiter of casts for the above Found us a horse for The New Room Provided 'rent a mob' extras Film Shows for the disabled group Recruited our members for filming the disabled groups' drama shows Hosted a party for the Society Was a keen supporter of the Society's skittles events. BFVS member Ken Rees penned a tribute... 'It's very sad that Dawn has left us. I, like many, have fond memories of the pleasure that Dawn brought to anyone who had the good fortune to share her company. We took it for granted that Dawn would, without fail, be able to source solutions, actors, locations and props from her large pool of friends and contacts, always responding to our calls for help. Both my sons Mike and Phil regarded her has an accomplished actress, stepping up her performance to match the demands of a semi-professional production undertaken with Plymouth University. Along with her involvement with acting and film making, she also worked tirelessly to provide a meeting place and entertainment for the disabled and infirm of Portishead; an undertaking in which a number of BVFS members have helped out over the years. We had fun times filming at Nore Farm for many projects, and when filming on the nearby beach during the making of Cabot. The memories of a cup of tea, the ever resident ducks and donkey, and her smile, will remain with me for a very long time. Ken' And from member Dave James... 'Dawn was always one of those people that encouraged us to 'make it happen' or to 'get it done', and always had plenty of energy and enthusiasm. A lovely lady, who always remembered to ask the things you cared about. And that dry sense of humour...'. I'm sure we all agree. Our sincere sympathy and best wishes go to Patrick, for whom this loss will be very great indeed. Gerry Parker, columnist for the Bristol Evening Post wrote an informative and detailed tribute back in April, when Dawn had been involved with amateur drama for 50 years.
