We are very pleased to welcome bona fide members of other film and video clubs to our meetings, as well as potential new members. Please don't be put off if you are a novice with little or no equipment or experience; we may be able to help you choose equipment wisely, and one of the club's prime objectives is to help the beginner.

Well it was bound to happen! Mark Whatmore is still filming in Saudi Arabia and sends us his apologies.

The evening will therefore now consist of a presentation by David Wilkins on the film production of the "Wigan Girls" and we'll look at some work from another group, Morecambe Bay Moviemakers.

For technical reasons Roger Pyne, whose ambition is to be a leading exponent of 3D in the UK, is unable to update us on the relatively new concept of 3D Filming and show some examples of his work.
We are looking for an alternative so - watch this space!

Pre Christmas Social

Open to members of groups of members this competition is the BIG one in our annual programme. Entries may be on any subject. The winner will receive the trophy and a cash prize of £50.00.

The competition will be judged in advance by professional lighting cameraman Stewart Mackay.
Stewart will offer constructive comment on each entry and present the awards.

FILMMAKING: FROM SCRIPT TO SCREEN
with Don Fairservice
Course content.
  1. January 5th 2010 - Dramatic form and cinematic structure.
    Story shape and narrative development; introduction to the Seven Basic Plots; three-act structure; conflict, setbacks and plot points; scripts and screenplays.
  2. January 19th 2010 - Shooting, Recording and Directing.
    Practical demonstrations of shot size, angles and framings; illustrated examples of lighting; auto focus and manual focus; recording sound, stereo and mono, wild tracks and the use of the clapperboard; directing actors and directing the camera; shooting ratios; essential paperwork and continuity records.
  3. February 2nd 2010 - Documentary.
    Script or no script; content, subject and story; shooting, lighting and recording audio; interviews and cutaways; covering action and activity for editing; artifice and the ethics of repeating action; recording voice-over; captions and commentary and narration.
  4. February 16th 2010 - Editing
    Organising the content; editing drama, editing documentary; rhythm, pace and timing; cutting ahead and leading sound; Foley, spot effects and multi-track sound; stills, transitions, captions and speed changing, commentary, grading and export.
  5. March 2nd 2010 - Analysing students’ work.
    Examples of students’ own films, or extracts, will be viewed entirely and then analysed, projected from a laptop so that specifics can be examined in depth.
  6. March 16th 2010 - Analysing students’ work continued.
    More of the above so that as much as possible can be scrutinised. This will be followed by a summary that will include reference to changing rules and conventions, their significance and importance.
Questions on everything will be encouraged throughout.
